Pillars of Work (0:00): Todd Nilson, host, introduces SJ Barakony onto the stream. Barakony starts with the three pillars of his work: Education Sherpa, Community Fractional, and Startups.
Role of the Futurist & Future of Work (13:26): Elaborating on the role, Barakony mentions the world currently in a cycle of major disruption. Imagining a mountain with your destination on the other side, the futurist simply says “I’ll get there.” When it comes to the future of work, change continues to happen rather than going back to pre-COVID conditions.
Futurism in Community (36:32): An emphasis on technology will not solve all of the problems, considering human dynamics. Community is the most important aspect in a business in terms of having an ability to retain and upsell members. Nilson points out how social media is not an ideal community building platform, akin to attempting to host a knitting circle in a gambling den.
Technology: Benefactor and Beast (47:15): Bringing the conversation to a close, Nilson asks about looking to the horizon of work in relation to utopian and dystopian societies. Technology will provide benefits right along with numerous downsides. However, association with fellow humans is and will continue to be important.
